Ube, heritage and gold: young Filipino chefs shine in Guangzhou

Two hospitality management students from Lucena brought Philippine flavors to the international stage, winning gold medals at the 2026 Asian Pastry Young Chefs Challenge with creations that celebrated Filipino food and cultural exchange. Jeorge Mishaela D. Celerio and Liam Trysten S. Comendador of St. Anne College Lucena, Inc. (SACLI) represented the Philippines at the September 10–12 competition at Guangzhou’s Canton Fair Complex. Officially endorsed by the Pastry Alliance of the Philippines, the team competed under the guidance of team manager and coach Chef Geronimo T. Gavilan.
