Philippines joins Guangzhou Fair, opens new avenues for people-to-people, cultural and economic ties with China
From colorful Filipino artworks to images of the country’s breathtaking landscapes and tourist destinations, the Philippines brought a vivid glimpse of its culture, creativity and hospitality to one of southern China’s major international trade gatherings — opening a window for Chinese visitors to see, experience and connect with the Philippines beyond business and commerce. The Philippine Consulate General in Guangzhou participated in the 34th Guangzhou Fair, otherwise known as the Canton Fair, held from August 21 to 23 at the Canton Fair Complex, using the three-day event as a platform to showcase the Philippines’ rich cultural heritage, tourism attractions and creative industries. But the Philippine presence at the fair was not only about putting the country’s destinations on display; it was also about people meeting people, cultures meeting cultures — and, eventually, businesses finding opportunities to work together. At the International Pavilion, the Consulate said the Philippine booth drew visitors with promotional materials featuring the country’s natural beauty and tourism destinations, offering Chinese audiences a glimpse of beaches, landscapes and attractions that make the Philippines a potentially attractive destination for travelers from China.
