More Philippine fruits, seafood and mineral products could reach Chinese markets through the Pinglu Canal, a new waterway that Philippine Ambassador to China Jaime A. FlorCruz hopes will open fresh opportunities for the country’s exporters. FlorCruz said the canal’s opening gives special significance to the Philippines’ participation as Country of Honor at this year’s China ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO). “The Philippines hopes to use the expo to showcase its products while exploring how the new connection through the Beibu Gulf and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region could help bring them to more buyers across China,” he said. He added, “To us, it has special significance because during that time, we hope that we can display Philippine products during the CAEXpo and to link that with the new (Pinglu) canal.” His message connects two opportunities: a prominent platform for Philippine products and a new route through which those products could travel.
