Bicol University moves closer to China academic partnership

Bicol University (BU) is moving closer to formalizing an academic partnership with Guiyang Kangyang University in China’s southwestern Guizhou province, advancing efforts to strengthen education ties between the Philippines and China. The Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing and Bicol University held a virtual meeting on September 10, 2026, to advance preparations for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two universities. According to Consul General Ivan Frank Olea, the institutions finalized the agreement’s text in July 2026. Guiyang Kangyang University subsequently confirmed that the proposed signing had secured the necessary university approvals. The agreement is expected to establish a framework for academic cooperation, providing a foundation for closer institutional ties, Olea said. The signing ceremony is expected to take place before the end of 2026.
